5 Top Makeup Tips to Perk you up When Sick

Hey my lovelies.

In the UK recently we have had such crap weather (no change there then). With that weather comes coughs and colds galore and nearly everyone I know has had some form of leprosy (what I call any illness).

I, myself, have been sick for, what feels like, ever and have been relying on some makeup tricks to help me look and feel a bit brighter when I have to brave leaving the house.

So here are my top tips for brightening up your face when under the weather.

1) Keep your Base light and luminous.

Usually your skin dries out a little when you are Ill. Resist the urge to cover your face in your fullest coverage, matte foundation as it can highlight any dryness. Use a BB cream or whatever foundation has the lightest coverage you can handle. You can also mix a liquid illuminator in to give you that extra glow.

2) Concealer is your friend.

With sickness, for me, comes breakouts and bags that even Chanel couldn't make pretty. That, coupled with lighter coverage means that concealer comes in handy. I've been using the LA Girl Pro Conceal in light ivory for my blemishes and in porcelain for under my eyes. My top tip is mixing your light concealer with an illuminating pen concealer under your eyes for maximum brightness. I've been loving the Collection Illuminating Touch Concealer in Naked 1.

3) Be a golden Goddess

I find that the tired eyes that come with illness is enhanced by too-dark eyeshadow but a champagne gold really lifts and brightens. In this look, I've used a little touch of 'bookworm' from Tanya Burr, a warm brown, in the crease and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter in opal on my lids. I also think a little soft line of brown shadow above the top lashes and a slick of mascara defines and opens the eyes even more.

4) Step up the glow

In a similar vane to step one, this step is to mimic that healthy glow that is lost when you are unwell. Don't forget the highlight. I love to put it on the tops of my cheekbones and blend it right up into my temples. I'm also a fan of the tip of the nose and cupids bow highlight. I've been loving an oldie but goodie recently- the ELF blush in 'Pinktastic'.
For added brightness don't forget a nice, bright inner corner. It really does wonders.

And last but by no means least...

5) Bright and Bold is beautiful.

Nothing makes me feel better and more put together than a slick of bright lipstick. Whether you are a pink, red, orange or purple kind of gal, a bright lipstick helps to brighten the whole face. Make sure to stick to something creamy or use a lipbalm beforehand as, most likely, you'll have dry lips when unwell and you don't want to enhance that.
I've used the Maybelline colour drama lip pencil in light it up in the pic above but I've been loving Charlotte Tilbury's Velvet Underground too.
